KNOW YOUR BEDDING MATERIALS - SATEEN!

We always talk about the quality of your beddings and how it affects your sleep.  While Cotton is still the boss of all bosses in the bedding world, that doesn't mean there aren't other quality and beautiful materials.

In this series, we have treated Cotton, Silk and Polyester. Today we will be talking about Sateen.

Sateen is a fabric made using a satin weave structure but made with cotton yarns instead of silk. The sheen and softer feel of sateen is produced through the satin weave structure. The material is luxurious and smooth to the touch. Sateen is presumed to be royalty, romantic, luxurious. It can also add a stylish look to a bedroom's decor. There are advantages and disadvantages to using sateen sheets.

Pros:

-The fibrous weave of sateen sheets exposes more yarn surface on the face of the cloth to give a softer feel.

-Sateen offers the luxurious feel and soft texture of satin.

-Sateen is a durable, long-lasting material. It can be used many times since sateen is machine washable.

Cons:

- The material highly resembles silk and can cause a person to sweat.

- Wearing satin or silk pajamas against the sateen sheets makes the bed slippery. It is better to wear cotton apparel or other material next to the sateen.

What do you think about Sateen sheets, Would you love to own a set?

CARE FOR YOUR DUVET

Decorative Duvet
A bed dressed in a fluffy duvet and a beautiful duvet cover almost guarantees a good night's sleep.  I've put together ways on how to care for duvets and duvet covers to help them last.
 What is a Duvet?
·         A duvet is a type of blanket for a bed. It's made like a large bag, usually of good quality, high-thread-count cotton, filled with feathers, down, silk, wool, or polyfil(fiber). A duvet takes the place of a sheet and blanket, all in one piece.

What is a Duvet Cover?
·         A duvet cover is like a large pillow case for a duvet. The duvet fits inside the cover which buttons closed or zip closed at one end.
·         Some duvet covers are basic and plain made from fabric like a sheet. Some duvet covers are made from decorative fabrics to complete the bedroom decor.

Duvet in a duvet cover

Care for a Duvet
·         Shake and fluff a duvet every morning after use. This will help to keep the fill evenly distributed.
·         If you keep a duvet cover on the duvet, you'll rarely need to clean it.
·         It's usually recommended that when necessary, you wash your duvet in a large, commercial washing machine. Do not dry clean as some chemicals used can break down the fibers of the fill.
·         Dry a duvet on gentle heat in the dryer. When it's partially dry, take it out, give it a good shake to break up damp clusters of filling, and finish the drying.
·         Hang a duvet out to air dry for at least 24 hours to make certain all sections are dry before replacing on the bed.
·         If you keep the duvet inside a duvet cover, it will stay clean and fresh for months.

Care for a Duvet Cover

·         Wash or clean the duvet cover like you do for the sheets. Iron and replace over the duvet.

I Just Got A New Sheet Kinda Feeling........

You know the feeling: you just spent five minutes chasing all the corners of the elastic form-fitting bottom sheet around your bed and then you laid and tucked the top sheet tightly into the mattress. You found some pillow covers in the linen closet, squeezed and shook your pillows in there, put your blanket over all of it, took a deep breath, and then just dove right into the fresh, cold, sheets?
New sheets are great because they don’t smell like The Sleeping You.  Don’t deny it! We’re all disgusting when we’re asleep, and new bed sheets are great for letting us temporarily escape our own filth.
Really, only one thing can add to that new bed sheet feeling and that’s when it’s you get home from a hard day, get a good dinner and shower and all you can see is your bed, you get to dive into your thin, cotton sheets. As you close your eyes softly, forgetting the noise of your neighbour's generator, moonlight  shadow-dancing on the walls, you know right then and there: It’s going to be a good night.
AWESOME!

HOW I CARE FOR MY BED LINENS.

Berry Dakara

Hey Bedding lovers,

It is a known fact that we do not take out time to protect our beddings as best as we can which lead me to this post. Below, i am going to explain how i wash my bed linens and how often i do it.  When I wash my sheets, I wash them separately from my towels or other clothing. This gives the sheets more room to circulate in the water, which means they'll get cleaner faster. Don’t think this process is long, I use my sheet at least 1 week and at most 2 weeks so am done washing it in 10 minutes. Also, I usually treat stains before washing my sheets. Please note that it is wrong to use bleach as it can damage the fabric and reduce its lifespan. A trick I have shared with people is to include a cup of lemon juice to the wash water instead of bleach. This also helps to brighten my sheets.

FEW GUIDELINES TO GO BY

Wash your sheets weekly OR biweekly to extend the lifespan.

During the time spent on the bed, dirt, dust, skin cells, body oils and fluids accumulate on sheets. These puts stress on the sheet fibers. To reduce the washing frequency, bathe before bedtime so you'll take less dirt into bed with you. Keeping sweat, oils, and dirt out of the bed will keep the sheets clean and you enjoy your sheets longer.

P.S: I will be talking about the lovely bed linen you see in this post soon.

The ABC of Bedding

JONATHAN ADLER

Sleeping in bed is the most rejuvenating part of a person's life. So a comfortable bed and bedding that complements the overall bedroom décor is a must. Since bed sheets are the most visible part of a bed, high quality bed sheets can make quite a difference to the visual appeal and comfort level of the room.

Here are a few tips on choosing the right kind of bedsheets:

While most of the mattresses come in standard sizes such as 'King-sized', 'Queen-sized' and 'Full-sized', the customized mattresses with pillow tops and other accessories attached to them can make them larger and wider.

Thus, it is better to measure the bed and the mattress size that you use beforehand, so that the bedsheets you buy are of appropriate sizes.

Cotton bedsheets are the most popular ones though one can use flannel and cotton mixed fabrics as bedsheets depending on our taste.

On the high end of fashion and comfort level, satins and silks with their soft feel on skin win almost every romantic heart.
Colours and designs of the bedsheets should match the overall theme and colour scheme of the room, though it can have a deeper hue than the colour of the walls.

Do you remember when all bed sheets were white cotton? If so, you're probably amazed at how many options are on the market now. You can add colour, style, and pattern to your bedroom with the newest bedding. Choose Cotton or Blends, Flannel, Silk, or Satin
For sheets you'll sleep on every day, treat yourself.

Choose the best you can afford. After all, you'll hopefully spend 8 hours a day lying on them! Cotton is the most popular sheet fabric, but some people prefer non-wrinkling cotton blends.

For luxury, choose satin, silk, or microfibre. You might buy a pair of pillowcases in different styles and see which you like best, how they feel to sleep on, how they wash.

Remember that many sheets will shrink as much as 7% in the first washing.

Buy More Bed Sheets Than You Need
If you've spent a lot of time deciding on what bed sheets to buy, you won't want to have to do it again soon. Consider buying two or three sets that are identical so you can trade off. If something spills on the bottom sheet, you can replace just that. If someone puts a foot through the top sheet, you won't have to start over. And be sure to add extra pillow cases for freshness.

Check the Laundering Instructions
Silk sheets are sensuous and wonderful, but will you have to have them dry cleaned each week? Can you afford that? Be sure that you'll be able to care for your new bed sheets the way the manufacturer recommends. They'll last longer.

And if you have any problem,
Call me , lets talk about what you should do and know before you spend your money to buy new bed sheets.

Not so cool to buy your sheets in Lagos traffic, discuss it first with me and get the best!

Its my job, i will get you the best sheets in town, delivered to your door!
